How to resolve excel format error

Microsoft Excel is very helpful for the user because it gives the capability to create spreadsheet to organize the data in a correct way. Sometimes when a user performs an inappropriate action then it throws errors. Excel format error is a very common error for excel users but you should be aware of its reasons and solutions. Generally, it occurs when user completed the work and tries to save the file. This error doesn’t allow to the user to save the file and by this, a user can lose the important data.

“Too many different cell formats” – this error comes many times when a user format a cell or the cell ranges in Excel 2003. The complete error message looks like this:

MS excel 2003 contents 4000 different cell format combinations and if a workbook crosses this limit cell formatting then a cell formatting error occurs. For MS Excel 2007 and later versions, this limit is 64000. The cell format combination includes:
  • Fonts

  • Alignment
  • Number formatting 
  • Borders
  • Cell protection
  • Cell patterns etc

Solution 1: Always update your MS Excel from office update. It doesn’t allow making built-in-style duplicate when a user copies a workbook.

Solution 2: If a user will take care of the cell format combination then it’s very easy to solve the error. Some key points which a user should remember:
  • Always use one or two standardized fonts. Try to choose standard fonts like Times New Roman, Arial instead of any fancy script.
  • The border should me proper and consistent. It is not necessary to add the border to every cell.
  • Numbers are also important and always take care of decimal numbers. For example: if you select the number 6.42 i.e. 2 decimal places then mention this consistency with others.

Solve the QuickBooks Error -6144 -82 in Few Simple Steps

QuickBooks is accounting software created by Intuit and helps to manage the business finances in one place. It is used by more than 1.3 million users in the world because it comes with the country edition. Intuit also provides the support for QuickBooks files. As there are many features in this software so the small corruption or error can turn into a huge disaster. Some errors are update related which is caused by the following reasons:

  • Multiple instances of the QuickBooks on the single system. (Example: QuickBooks Enterprise solution 7.0 and premier edition 2007)
  • Firewall or internet security related setting

  1. If QuickBooks .TLG (Transaction Log File) or .ND (Network Data) files are damaged.
  2. If the user permission has not been set up to share the company file

Solution 1: To solve the corruption, rename the .TLG and .ND files of QuickBooks company file. A log file can be larger than the company file and it depends on the number of transactions. An .ND file is approx 1 MB in size. When company file got corrupted then a user can restore the file from the backup file. Now see the steps to rename .TLG and .ND files:

  • Go to the company files location and rename the .TLG and .ND files. For example, if your company file name is my_company_file then .TLG and .ND files will be: my_company_file.QBW.TLG & my_company_file.QBW.ND

  • Now open the QuickBooks Database Server Manager. To start this, click on the Start button->Programs->QuickBooks->QuickBooks Data Server Manager.
  • Select the folder where QuickBooks file is present.
  • Scan the folder
  • Now open the file.

Solution 2:  To set the user permission, follow these steps:

  • Go to Company tab
  • Click on the Users->Set Up Users and Roles
  • Enter the password to access the information.
  • Now select the user name from the user list and change the role according to the requirement.

Solution 3: This solution is related to multiuser access.

  • Start QuickBooks without opening a company file. To do this, hold the Ctrl key and click on the QuickBooks icon. Press the Ctrl button until QuickBooks settles.
  • Go to Files->Utilities->Stop Hosting multiuser access
  • Now again go to the Files->Utilities->Start Hosting multiuser access
