Excel Startup Errors Solutions

Sometimes Excel users experience with Excel File problems while they try to start Microsoft Excel. Some of the known issues are:
  • Corrupted Excel program shortcut  
  • Conflict with another program
  • Incorrect version 
  • Corrupted add-ins under the Tools menu
  • Registry keys Corruption
  • Other problems when opening Excel files

You may experience these startup errors when you try to start Excel by clicking a workbook file, or when you run Excel from the Start menu.

To resolve these issues, use following steps: 

1. Excel shows errors during startup process: If the excel shows an error message during starting process then you should follow these steps to fix the issue:

1. Open Excel without any Add-ins: You can open Excel without Add-ins by using Automation switch from the XLSTART folder:

Click Start, Run,
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Automation

If the error still occurs then it may be due to add-in or a (hidden) workbook that is loaded upon Excel.
There are various types of Add-ins: After that uncheck all Add-ins & then Restart Excel.

If still the error occurs then it may be a due to (hidden) workbook.

You can check it in Excel 2007/2010/2013 by Office button or File tab, Excel Options, Advanced tab:

In Excel 2003 and the older version, you can check it by Tools, Options, General, "Alternate Startup file location":

You can also fix these errors by Opening Excel in Safe mode. This option ensures that Excel starts without opening any Add-ins.
Start, Run,
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Safe

2. Excel shows error while Opening Files by double clicking From Desktop: If this happens then you may fix this issue by re-written shell registration for Excel.

Excel 2003

In Excel 2003, the Regserver switch use to write the shell registration for Excel.
Click Start, Run and enter:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Regserver

Excel 2013, 2010 and 2007:

For Excel 2013, 2010 and 2007 you need to run setup/repair.

3. Excel is not opening due to Disabled Files: Disabled files also prevent Excel file to opening. In this case Excel may get suspected & cause to Excel Crash.

Excel 2007/2010/2013

You can check disabled file by selecting the Office button & then click Excel Options. Click the Add-ins tab and use the dropdown:

Excel 2003:

If the file is disabled then try to enable.

When you enabled file & its crashes the Excel then it means your file gets severely corrupted. In this case, you should use Third Party Excel Repair Software to repair corrupt File.

4. Excel is not opening due to corrupted temporary files: If it happens due to corrupted temporary files then try to cleanup your TEMP folder.

MS Office Word 2013 Most Popular Error Message

Microsoft Word is used by millions of people, even the profession is whatever; this is the need of every single user. When this program gets faltered, it can affect your overall work. Now After the launch of MS OFFICE 2013, most of the users are facing a common error message in MS Word.  May be you are one of them just like me. Here are all steps which I follow to get Word back on track.  

After installing MS Office 2013, when I try to open WORD doc, I am facing the problem of WORD shutdown & starting given me an error message:

“MS Word is trying to recover your information”

After canceling this error message, it shows following error message:

I found these Quick fixing steps:

  • Try open these documents with Open and Repair. (File --> Open --> Browse --> Open and Repair)
  • Try to repair your Office program and reboot your computer as a quick fix.
  • Run Word in safe mode to determine if this could be caused by the 3rd-party add-ins. 
  • Run WinWord.exe /safe or Excel.exe /safe or hold down Ctrl to click the Word/Excel icon to start Word/Excel in safe mode. 

The same issue also can occur in MS Word 2010 & 2007. In this case, the only cause is 3rd-party add-ins in Word. Follow these steps to fix this error message in word 2010: 

For Word 2010:

First click on File>>Options

Click Add-Ins>>Go

Uncheck 'Send to Bluetooth>>OK

This is the only single add-ins which I disable in above steps. If you are still facing the problem then you should try disabling other add-ins.

For Word 2007:  

Office>> Word Options

Click Add-Ins>>OK

Uncheck 'Send to Bluetooth>>OK

Same for word 2007, if you are still facing the problem then you should try disabling other add-ins.

MS Office 2013 Overview

Hi!! Welcome to MS Office 2013

  Let's Start with 

Word 2013 Starting Screen: This is the starting screen of MS Word 2013:

Have you notice some changes in the starting page? Yes!!
Left-hand pane shows recent documents. Now let's take a look of right area of starting screen. First of all a blank document and a Ribbon user interface has a new Design tab, from where you can change all your design changes in one place. More options include fonts, paragraph spacing, themes, and adding watermarks to documents etc...
Here is the list of changes:

  • In new Read Mode, you will see that text reflows automatically in columns for easier on-screen reading.
  • There are Fewer menus available which means more focus on your content
  • You can also open a PDF in Word, and also can edit content.
  • You can also add Online Videos
  • Show your style by using Word templates in more than 40 categories

Now it's time for Excel 

Excel 2013 Starting Screen: This is the starting screen of MS Excel 2013: 

Here is the list of changes:
Flash Fill- This new feature helps Excel to recognize repeated tasks and finish them for you.
Quick Analysis- You can do quick analysis by Right-clicking selection of cells & see the preview of conditional formatting, charts, totals, tables, and sparklines.
Recommended Pivot Tables and Charts- You can see different suggestions of pivots & charts by highlight any table.
Power View- This new features can create beautiful, interactive reports.
Timeline- This feature can be use to filter dates interactively in pivot tables, pivot charts, and cubes.
Relationships- A new feature helps you to check how data from tables is linked together.

Let's have a look on PowerPoint 

PowerPoint 2013 Starting Screen: This is the starting screen of MS PowerPoint 2013:

Here is the list of changes:
Presenter View: This new feature allows you to see your notes on your System while at the same time other users only can see the slide.
Smart Guides: This feature automatically appears even your objects are close.
Multimedia formats: PowerPoint 2013 supports various multimedia format such as .mp4 and .mov, more high-definition content, and more built-in codec’s.
Office 2013 System Requirements:
Computer and processor: 1 GHz or faster x86- or x64-bit processor with SSE2 instruction set
Memory (RAM): 1 GB RAM (32-bit); 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
Hard Disk: 3.0 GB available
Operating System: Office 2013 supports 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows.

Office 2013 32-bit products are supported on the following Windows operating systems:
